Cari's Mokelumne River Senior Session | Lodi Senior Photographer
Cari's Country Senior Session Along the Mokelumne River
Some seniors know exactly what they want their session to feel like. Cari was one of them. She wanted country. She wanted water. She wanted golden hour magic in a place that felt like home. So we headed to the Mokelumne River just outside Lodi, CA, and made one of the most stunning summer sessions of the year.
Meet Cari
Cari is a Linden High School senior with cheer energy, athletic drive, and a country soul. When we hopped on our first planning call together, she told me she was nervous. That's honestly one of the most common things I hear from seniors, and it's exactly why my process is built the way it is. By the time we finished our second Zoom to plan outfits and locations, she wasn't just prepared. She was excited.
Why We Chose the Mokelumne River
The Mokelumne River just outside Lodi is one of those spots that gives you everything at once. A slow-moving river and lush meadows. A country road lined with weathered fencing. Wildflowers and tall grasses catching the last of the golden hour light. As a Lodi senior photographer, I've shot a lot of sessions in this area, and this location keeps earning its spot on my list because it lets a senior feel like herself without a bunch of visual noise fighting for attention. Cari wanted country. This delivered.
The Session
In our discussion I told her to bring her bff for some fun pictures and to tell her mom to be prepared for a couple as well. As a mom myself I know how important those little moments are during senior year! Cari came prepared. She brought six outfits, her cheer uniform paired with cowboy boots (yes, that combo was as fun as it sounds), her letterman jacket, and all her sports gear so we could honor her athlete side. Her showstopper look was a long flowy green dress that she wore both near and in the water. She even brought fresh flowers to weave through multiple looks, some tucked into her hair, some scattered around her in the water while she posed like a country river goddess. That kind of creative energy only happens when a senior walks in confident and prepared, which is exactly what my two planning calls and prep guides are built to make possible.
What Cari Had to Say
"Michelle has to be the best person to take pictures with! I was a nervous wreck and Michelle walked me through everything and made me feel instantly at ease. I loved how she showed me the back of the camera sneak peeks. That really made me feel so beautiful."
Cari's words are exactly why I do this work. A senior who walks in nervous and walks out feeling beautiful, that's not just a good photo shoot. That's a shift in how she sees herself. The back-of-camera sneak peek during a session is one of my favorite tools for exactly this reason, because when a senior sees herself through my lens in real time, she starts to believe what everyone else already sees.
The Legacy Piece
Cari and her family walked away with a custom-designed album from her session. Something they can hold, flip through, and pass around at every family gathering for years to come. Because your senior year isn't a folder buried in cloud storage. It's a story worth telling in something tangible your family can actually put their hands on.
